Hey, I’m Neknek, the guy behind this mind palace.

I was born on a cold, stormy night in the early ’80s deep in the urban jungles of California. I grew up mostly in Idaho.

As a kid, I was the class clown, which might surprise people who know me now. Nowadays, I’m your typical quiet guy. Depends who you ask. My wife might say I never shut up around her, but honestly I think the majority of the time I do come off as quiet and reserved. Perhaps that’s because I’m more comfortable living in my own head.

When I graduated high school, I joined the Navy and did a couple of deployments. After that I bounced through a handful of jobs and earned a degree in English, eventually finding an office job where I stare at the computer and hope to survive until retirement.

One unique thing about me is I’m pretty slow. I walk slow, think slow, and it takes me forever to do pretty much anything. Perhaps that’s part of the reason I’m not a great conversationalist and why I’m so much better at writing my thoughts down than speaking them out loud.

Most of my free time is low-key. I usually stay home and play video games or watch movies, or just screw around with this website right here. Occasionally, I might try my hand at creative writing or whatever else hijacks my short attention span.

I’m fond of the weird old ’90s and early 2000s internet and that whole era in general. So, part of what I’m doing here is indulging in some of those old-web vibes. But this site is also literally my mind palace. Somewhere for me to place my thoughts, ideas, and stories. All the things I don’t want vanishing because they’re trapped inside my head.

I’m also a person who overthinks things that probably don’t have any answers, like spirituality, death, the nature of consciousness, and the universe... All that kind of stuff. I’d rather explore these deep ideas than take a staunch position where I declare everyone else wrong. I’m pretty open-minded. I do have opinions, but I’m capable of changing my mind when something better comes along. Yeah, I guess I’m a variable and changeable dude.

I also respect other people who are willing to adjust their position with the arrival of new information. And I value people who keep their word and treat others with decency. I’m not perfect at any of that, but that’s the direction I’m aiming for at any rate.

My ideal Sunday, you ask?

Hmm...

Probably staying home with my aforementioned hobbies and enjoying the peace and quiet. But if you gave me an unlimited supply of cash and freedom, I’d probably be out on a white-sand beach with a piña colada, gazing at the turquoise water with naught else on my mind except the sound of waves crashing onto the beach and the rhythm of that sweet steel drum.
